Brigham Young University Idaho is a private four-year institution of higher learning located in Rexburg, Idaho. It is affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It traces its roots back to 1888 when the Bannock Stake Academy was established by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The school changed its name to Fremont Stake Academy in 1898 and Ricks Academy in 1903. It became Ricks College in 1923. It gained accreditation from the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges in 1930. The college continued to evolve and officially became a four-year institution in 2000. It finally became Brigham Young University Idaho in 2001. Today, Brigham Young University Idaho is the largest private university in the state. It is home to more than 34,000 students on its 430-acre campus. It is also home to more than 15,000 online students. It operates on the semester-based academic calendar, featuring three, 14-week semesters and a seven-week summer semester.
